Our client, Ms A, brought a claim arising from the negligent management of her care following the birth of her child in 2019
Ms A alleged that failures in her post-partum care following childbirth resulted in severe hypotension which ultimately led to permanent damage to the pituitary gland. It was a significant and life-changing injury, leaving her with cognitive dysfunction affecting her memory, concentration and day-to-day functioning.
The defendant Trust denied liability throughout the claim and strongly disputed that the care provided to Ms A fell below an acceptable standard. It also challenged whether the injuries complained of were caused by any alleged failings.
Given the complexity of the medical and causation issues involved, extensive investigations were required. Our team obtained evidence from eight independent medical experts, covering a range of specialist disciplines, to establish both liability and the full extent of Ms A’s injuries and losses.
Despite detailed representations on her behalf, the Defendant continued to deny responsibility, making it necessary to issue court proceedings. What followed was lengthy and hard-fought litigation, with liability remaining in dispute throughout.
Through careful preparation of the case, robust expert evidence and persistent negotiation, we were ultimately able to secure a substantial six-figure settlement for Ms A. The settlement provides financial security and recognises the significant impact that her injuries have had on her health, independence and quality of life.
